Punjab Shagun Scheme 2024

The punjab shagun scheme would see the government provide awards to girls from economically challenged homes in Punjab ranging from Rs 15000 to Rs 21000. This financial assistance would be provided to the impoverished girl when she marries. This benefit is offered to women aged 18 and older who are economically disadvantaged members of the scheduled caste. The  will be awarded to about 10,873 women from reserved castes. According to Sadhu Singh Dharamsot (empowerment and minority minister), Aashirwad collected 22 crores, and Rs. 8,000 girls were provided gasoline at one go to the economically challenged classes.

 In the current fiscal year, the Punjab government spent Rs 129.29 crore on the 25,399 Ashirwad scheme recipients. The total expenditure for the 2022 fiscal year is Rs 161.31 crore. It offers Rs 51,000 to women from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes who are underprivileged for marriages.

Punjab Govt will distribute 256 crores of Ashirwad Funds

Dr. Baljit Kaur, Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, indicated that the Punjab government will soon disburse financial help under the Ashirwad initiative to 50,189 recipients from economically disadvantaged groups, Scheduled Castes, and Backward Classes. The funds would be distributed to cover the period March 2022-2023 due to the outstanding petitions of 21,662 Scheduled Caste beneficiaries and 13,385 Backward Class beneficiaries and economically disadvantaged sectors. Their combined liabilities was 178.49 million.

The present administration would have awarded benefits of 178 crores to 35,047 recipients till February 2022. From March 2022 to January 20,23, financial assistance will be provided to 50,189 recipients. 33,983 SC beneficiaries would receive Rs. 173 crore. 16,206 BCS recipients will get 82.65 million. Economically deprived groups and those with low incomes will get 82.65 million. The minister ordered the recipients to submit their claims through the government website. Last year, the state government introduced the Ashirwad Scheme website.

Objective of Punjab Shagun Scheme

The main objective of the scheme is to make it easier for low-income families in Punjab to marry. The plan serves all female nationals of Punjab. All candidates who are SC, ST or OBC are eligible for the scheme’s benefits. For financial help, candidates must apply before the scheduled day of marriage or after 30 days of marriage.
